I’ve actually ridden in one of these turbine cars. While I was at Notre Dame from ’67-’71 (not sure what year I took this ride), Chrysler brought this car to campus and gave rides to the mechanical engineering students. Talk about a head-turner! It sounded like a jet plane and, when stopped at an intersection, people stopped and stared with their jaws dropped open. I remember that it idled at 60,000 rpm and had a maximum engine speed of 120,000 rpm.
