“Cruisers will be immersed in 1964 culture as the Woodward Dream Show & Festival at M1 Concourse will transform to a place filled with entertainers, three live bands playing 1960s music, and a celebration of fashion styles like the mini skirt created in the ‘60s, and a NASA space race exhibit, all in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the 1964 Pontiac GTO, complete with an exhibit of 64 different GTOs,” shared Brian Baker, Director of Events and Festivals at M1 Concourse. “Additionally, we will have the Insiders’ Garage Symposium with conversations that go under the hood, sounds of cackle that you don’t want to miss, remote control cars, and the Meijer Family Fun Zone with games and activities for all kids ages.”
The original Monkeemobile, a custom Pontiac GTO created for the band The Monkees will be on display. Musical bands set to perform on the festival’s M1 American Bandstand include SHOUT, a local group who emulates the Beatles, Keepin the Summer Alive as the Beach Boys hailing from their hometown of Hawthorne, California, and The Motown Revue, a group of 10 singers performing Motown’s greatest hits. Plus we’ll see a Dick Clark-style entertainer who will get the whole crowd to “name that tune” and do the twist.
To cap off the expansion of the Woodward Dream Show & Festival, the City of Pontiac has formally declared Friday, August 16 as Pontiac GTO Day, to mark the 60th anniversary and the spirit of the classic vehicle.
